Identity & tradition

House Marino led the faction that rivalled and warred with House Fachelli for the throne in the early eras. A series of marriages and sworn oaths bound House Bambino to the Marino family. Marino held leadership of that faction, opposing the greater established wealth and power of the Fachellis.

The words passed down

“Keep faith with the shore.”

Where the saying comes from

Porto Vela’s departing crews named the households they would supply on their return. The shore meant people and promises, not merely a harbour.

Leadership is a course taken on behalf of those depending on it. A captain or heir can be judged by whom they bring home and whom they abandon.

When it is heard

At a departure, when entrusting a crew to a new leader, or as a reproach when ambition outruns obligations.

Across exile and new worlds, the shore becomes the people carried with them. The words can defend a necessary alliance or expose a leader’s claim that cruelty served those left behind.

The homeland in Vardessa

The Lantern Coast · Porto Vela

Cold, storm-driven winters on the northern Lantern Coast; frost and snow visit the high northern holds. Southward, Porto Vela has mild, wet maritime winters and warm summers. The sea moderates the port, but does not spare the northern cliffs. Sheltered inlets, tidal marshes and the lower Avel estuary. Deep water reaches the quays while inland shoals reward local pilots.

A fleet connects scattered ports into one faction. Pilots, shipwrights and merchants make leadership depend on useful alliances as well as force. Bambino’s neighbouring cattle valleys supply food, leather and draft animals; marriage and oath secure this shared corridor.

The ship is the source of Marino reach and wealth. The guiding star belongs to navigation and the Starwatch light above the harbour approach.

Trade partners

Bambino supplies food, hides and draft stock; Garbonzo sells mast timber through Vespucci even across the faction divide. Fachelli buys imported luxuries and pays in gold.

Music & oral tradition

Call-and-response hauling songs, bells marking departures and verses naming absent crews. A future battle song needs an accepted event, not just a map icon.

Modern history

Luciani proposes the first union after Cenerath’s eruption: the Ashen Compact brings the survivors beneath the Fachelli crest before they flee Vardessa. Later divisions culminate in the 1935–1940 Red–Blue Civil War between Fachelli and Vespucci, which nearly destroys Garbonzo and Bambino. Luciani brokers the 1940 peace that establishes the seven-seat Commission. The Houses arrive in Montaro in 2026. Shared origin, complementary duties and unfamiliar outside powers make cooperation necessary; unity does not create one bloodline or erase what one family did to another.

What survives the union

Old grievances travel in household stories, pauses and jokes whose humour can conceal resentment. A slight can reopen an old wound, but love, marriages, new alliances and shared challenges can also bind descendants their ancestors taught to distrust. Do not assume either inevitable betrayal or automatic reconciliation: each generation chooses what to carry forward.

Relationships

These relationships begin in Vardessa and carry different pressures into later eras. A House tradition does not fix every descendant’s allegiance. Specific marriages connect named people; sworn banners do not create kinship.

Values & reputation

Leadership rests on the ability to gather and sustain a faction. Marriage, sworn loyalty and shared ambitions connect Marino interests to Bambino interests. Enterprise and exploration remain part of the House tradition, alongside its history as a contender for the throne.

What the family passes down

The ship and guiding star carry the memory of a House that sets a course for its allies. Bambino banners follow Marino through bonds of both family and oath; the two Houses retain their own names and identities.

The tension within the tradition

A marriage binds families without removing differences in ambition. The early alliance does not make every later Marino and Bambino character an unquestioning ally: later betrayals and succession struggles remain part of the record. Fachelli and Marino approach rivalry strategically. Their strikes are calculated, ruthless and devastating; both dynasties have gone too far across their history. Neither House owns a simple moral claim. Read each conflict through its stakes, choices and human cost, rather than assigning innocence to a surname.

The House’s early role is established. The founding register fixes the first named households and two Marino–Bambino marriages. Unknown intervening ancestors, additional marriages, oath terms and battle accounts enter the chronology as the Commission and community develop them.
